Arrest this gun thug, police told
The thug who fired on rivals at the Dandora dump must be arrested at once, the county’s top police chief has ruled.
The man, named as Wambua Kaloki, aka Kalonje, handed in two guns to police — a Ceska pistol and a revolver — but also said he had an AK-47 assault rifle hidden in a field in Kiambu.
He promised to hand that in too but has so far failed to do so, police said.
Now County police chief Benson Kibue has demanded his immediate arrest.
“The ultimatum is over and we will now lift the amnesty we gave to the man. He will now face the full wrath of the law,” Kibui told the Buruburu and Starehe OCPDs.
Kalonje surrendered his guns to the police and admitted that he had an AK47 a day after he was pictured firing at a rival group at the Dadora dump following a dispute over who should have the money paid by operators who take waste to the site.
One of the rival gangsters was killed and another wounded.
A gun in the wrong hands for more than three weeks must have been used to commit several crimes, Kibue said — and he added:.
“Whoever will be found with that rifle now deserves to die. We are now forced to use force to confiscate the gun”
He said police did not arrest Kalonje at the time because they wanted to encourage other criminals to surrender their weapons.
Buruburu OCPD Richard Kerich said yesterday they were looking for Kalonje.
“We do not know whether he moved from Dandora but we are looking for him. Another group of police officers are also in Kiambu to find the gun and hopefully, we will find it,” he added.
He said police informers in Dandora were helping to track down Kalonje.
Kalonje and two other men surrendered their firearms after Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko promised to pay Sh 50,000 for every firearm surrendered.
When they surrendered their firearms at the Dadora Police Station, the three men were given heroic treatment to the point of having police officers’ protection from the crowd that was baying for their blood.
