An armed suspect was on Saturday afternoon arrested along Lunga Lunga road near Raiply in industrial area following a tip off from members of the public.

The suspect who has been identified as Abdullahi Edin was armed with two pistols and is suspected to have been on his way to commit a felony when he was arrested by officers from Lunga Lunga Administration Police post.

The two firearms which were wrapped in black polythene bags were tucked into his waistband and concealed by a jeans jacket.

A total of 20 rounds of ammunition was also recovered from the suspect.

According Viwandani AP commander Alphonce Mulinge, they had been tracking the suspect since early morning.

“This is a very dangerous and daring criminal and we had been trailing him after we received information on which whereabouts from members of the public. Apart from being involved in criminal activity, we believe he has been hiring out the weapons we recovered from him to other gangsters,” he said.

According to documents found on the suspect, the man hailed from Odda in Moyale district, Marsabit county.

His arrest gives weight to long held suspicions that Eastleigh is a transit point for weapons suspected to come from Kenyan’s war-torn neighbouring countries.
