Apologise, or else… Ruto tells Boniface Mwangi

October 2nd, 2016 1 min read

Deputy President William Ruto has threatened to sue activist Boniface Mwangi for a ‘libelous tweet’ that linked him (Ruto) to the death of Nairobi businessman Jacob Juma.

The DP, through his lawyers, Kilukumi & Co. Advocates, are alternatively demanding a suitable retraction, correction and apology from activist Boniface Mwangi.

Ruto’s lawyers claim the vocal activist posted a controversial tweet on September 28 suggesting he was involved in the death of Mr Juma.

Juma was murdered in cold blood under unclear circumstances in May and his body was later recovered in his car in Nairobi in the middle of the night, a development that caused political tension in parts of the country at the time.

Before his death, he had however – albeit incidentally – in a series of tweets, accused senior Government officials of plotting to eliminate him.

DEFAMATORY WORDS

In a tweet preceding the offensive one, Mr Mwangi had thus explained that the DP was mad with him for stopping  him from grabbing Langata Primary School playground.

The DP’s legal team insists that in the event that Mwangi fails to apologise, he will be sued for among other things damages and character assassination.

“The defamatory words (on Twitter) attracted 556 retweets and 476 likes as of today 9:30am after the tweet was posted as well as numerous comments from different people who now view our client as a murderer and a thief. His reputation as a national leader has been gravely undermined by the said tweet,” part of the letter by Kilukimi and Co. Advocates reads in part.

However, the fiery Mr Mwangi has dared Mr Ruto to go ahead and sue him.

The youthful former journalist did so by posting another tweet on his account suggesting that the DP failed to sue another politician Cyrus Jirongo over the same subject.
