AP officer who killed colleague in bar surrenders after sobering up

The police officer who shot dead his colleague and injured another officer in Ngong on Friday morning before disappearing has been arrested and will remain in custody for the next 14 days for investigations to be completed.

On Saturday morning, Administration Police Constable Ismael Hussein surrendered himself to the Kajiado Central County AP commander Mr Awino Boya and was immediately handed over to the CID boss.

His firearm, a Ceska pistol serial number F9919 loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, and a mobile phone was also confiscated and handed over to the detectives.

The officer is however said to have refused to surrender the SIM card.

He is being investigated for shooting dead his regular counterpart Corporal Benson Baraza and injuring another Constable Maranga Nyakeramba.

On Friday at around 1am, police officers on patrol within Elpaso went to Destiny Bar after they heard some commotion. Corporal Baraza knocked the door but immediately the lights were switched off from inside.

When the door was opened, the officer was shot on the head and died on the spot. His colleague, Constable Nyakeramba was shot on the left collar bone and was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital in a fair condition.

Immediately, police arrested six suspects who have since recorded statements with the police.

Late last month in the same area, a response to a distress call turned tragic when another police officer was shot dead by his colleagues whom he had accompanied to a residence of a family that had been attacked by armed robbers.

The officers arrived at the residence and took positions. In less than three minutes, 12 rounds were fired but after everything went silent, the bullet riddled body of Constable George Ochieng was found within the compound.

The family had lost goods worth around Sh212, 000.
