AP officer charged over loss of firearm and ammunition

An Administration Police officer assigned to a High Court judge has been charged with loss of his gun.

Sergeant Langat Kipkoech, who was the bodyguard of Judge Weldon Korir, said he lost a Ceska pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition when unknown people attacked him on Mbagathi way last Saturday.

He denied three counts of negligence and failing to report loss of the weapon to his bosses. The court heard that Mr Kipkoech failed to take reasonable precaution to ensure that he did not lose his gun.

He was also charged that he failed to ensure that 12 rounds of ammunition in his possession were safe and failing to report the loss.He denied all the charges.

Kibera Resident Magistrate Tommark Olando released him on Sh20,000 cash bail. The case will be mentioned on February 24 and a hearing date set.
