Another guest who attended tragic Karen wedding succumbs to cholera

One person has died in Vihiga County following a cholera outbreak in the region.

County health director Dr Quido Ahindukha said two others were treated at Kaimosi and County Referral hospital and were later on discharged.

The outbreak, the first in the region since July last year, was first reported on Monday.

Dr Ahindukha said the affected had travelled back into the county after attending a wedding of a relative in Karen, Nairobi.

This brings to four the number of people who have succumbed to cholera after attending and eating at the wedding.

Dr Ahindukha said the victim who succumbed to the disease was diagnosed in Nairobi and then traveled to Vihiga where his condition worsened.

“He was rushed to Kaimosi hospital where he succumbed to the disease. Two other victims have been treated and discharged,” said Dr Ahindukha.

He added: “We have also sent out our health surveillance team to Kaimosi, Chango and Kigama because these are the areas where people who travelled to Nairobi for a wedding hail from. Some of them have returned and so we must be on high alert.”
