Angry villagers lynch man who killed his 10-year-old daughter

A 50-year-old man from Nthangarine village in Igembe North was lynched by an irate mob after killing his 10-year-old daughter by slitting her throat.

The incident took place after the girl’s mother went to buy food and the father was left alone with the child in their small hut.

It is not clear what led the father to commit the crime but a neighbour, Mr Thuranira M’Imungiri, said the girl had lost Sh 100 after she was sent to the market.

“The family lives in abject poverty and getting Sh 100 note is not an easy task. The girl’s father might have been infuriated by this,” Mr M’Imungiri said.

The girl’s brother, who had gone to the neighbourhood, came back home and found his father in the house but her sister was nowhere to be seen.

LIFELESS BODY

He started looking for her and later on found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood behind their house. He raised an alarm which the neighbours responded to.

One of them called the area Chief who later called the police from Mutuati Station.

After the girl’s body was carried away by police more people gathered at Mr M’Kairi’s homestead.

They later decided to get him out of the house and led him to a nearby Shopping Centre where they lynched him.
Both bodies were taken to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Another neighbour said the man and his wife had turned to drinking chang’aa due to frustrations.

“They have no land for farming and this has made them desperate. They usually roam in the village borrowing food, ” said a neighbour, Ms Jane Ciamaroo.
