Amani could be leaving Ogopa DJs

Singer Amani is allegedly planning to say goodbye to Ogopa DJs, her recording company of more than 10 years, Nairobi News can reveal.

According to a very close source to the singer, Amani has been struggling to exit for the last one year but she is bound by a contract she signed. Ogopa is one of the biggest music recording labels in East Africa.

“Amani accuses Ogopa DJs of neglecting her and of failing to account for the revenue they earn off her music, but through the contract, Ogopa DJs is reluctant to release her. In fact, she has even gone to court to cancel the contract,” said the source, who requested anonymity.

Amani says the managers at Ogopa have been concentrating on “smaller female artistes” instead of her, a veteran musician in the stable, added the source. It is not clear where she will go when, and if, she manages to leave Ogopa DJs.

The label has been facing serious artiste-manager issues for the past two years, after one of their top producers Philip Makanda ditched the label to form his own, Mainswitch Records. Among those who moved include singer Jaguar.
