African Queens off to Japan

The national women volleyball team left for Japan on Thursday afternoon, where the outfit is slated to feature at the FIVB World Cup.

The team led by captain Brackcides Agala and her assistant Janet Wanja, departed the country at 2pm for a five hour flight to Abu Dhabi, from where they will connect aboard another 11 hour flight to Tokyo.

The team will train in the Asian country for a week ahead of the competition, which begins on August 22.

“Preparing in Japan will do us alot of good. We needed to acclimatize and also get a good workout away from home and also play a couple of friendly matches against high quality opposition,” the team coach David Lung’aho said.

Kenya will open her campaign at the international competition with a match against Cuba on August 22. Other matches against bigwigs USA, hosts Japan, Russia and Peru.
