AFC Leopards sign multi-million sponsorship deal with betting firm


Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards on Tuesday unveiled a three-year shirt sponsorship deal with online sports betting firm Betway.

Under the partnership, Betway will become the club’s official sponsors and will have their name emblazoned on the shirts of Leopards players besides providing the training kits.

The technical bench and the club’s junior team will also benefit in the kitting arrangement.

SH30 MILLION

Though both parties declined to give the cost of the deal, we have established that Betway will pump Sh 30 million into the club annually, with a 10 percent increase each year for the duration of the partnership.

Speaking during the unveiling of the deal at Nyayo National Stadium, Betway’s representative Anthony Prissmann said; “I’m excited and happy to bring this to conclusion. Betway is very much involved in sports and soccer across the world.”

“We have partnered with a club which has a lot of history and heritage. It’s about embracing sports and bringing the Betway brand to Kenya. We want to help the club attain its former glory.”

LONG OVERDUE

Club chairman, Mathews Opwora hailed the partnership terming it long overdue.

“This has been a long journey, we have gone through turmoil. Let us forget the past. Football being business, it will create opportunities for our youngsters.”

The event was however snubbed by a section of Leopards officials allied to Dan Mule as well as the federation and the Kenyan Premier League officials.

According to Prissman, Betway, who are also the shirt sponsors of English Premier League side West Ham, intend to introduce exchange programme between Ingwe and the Hammers that will see Leopards junior teams players immensely benefit from exposure by their English counterparts.
