AFC Leopards players detained in Mombasa hotel over unpaid bills

AFC Leopards players are being detained at the Jambo Hotel in Mombasa owing to unpaid bills amounting to Sh 170, 000.

The team has been residing in the facility, located in Changamwe, for the past three days in the run up to their 2-1 league win against Bandari in a league match on Tuesday evening.

“None of the team members can leave the hotel, the security guards here are really harassing us. This is really frustrating…” a senior player at the club told Nairobi News.

Reliable reports indicate the hotel’s management insist the club has to clear the Sh 170,000 bill in full before the players can be released.

A club official accompanying the team had suggested to the hotel’s management that the bill be paid within the next seven days. The suggestion was dismissed.

Meanwhile, the club’s management in Nairobi is said to be looking for somewhere to borrow the money in a bid to clear the debt.

This development is certainly a new low in Kenyan football, even by the financially strapped club’s own standards.
