79-year-old-man robbed, shot dead for Sh1,000

A 79 year old man was shot dead on Friday in Karuga village, Igwamiti location Laikipia County by unknown gunmen who only stole Sh 1,000 and a mobile phone.

The deceased, Peter Kamatu, a retired police officer was in his house when the assailants struck at 9pm armed with guns. The attackers forced their way into his house and started demanding money while assaulting the old man.

According to Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Asila the robbers shot the man as he tried to fight back killing him on the spot.

“The deceased’s wife gave them Sh 1,000 in an effort to save her wounded husband. The attackers also made away with the deceased’s mobile phone,” Mr. Asila said.

The incident comes after a series of robberies in the deceased’s homestead where livestock have been stolen from time to time.

“It is unfortunate that the man lost his life to the attackers who only made away with Sh 1, 000. We are following leads to ensure the thugs are brought to book,” the police boss said.

The deceased body is lying at the Nyahururu district hospital mortuary.
