Wesley Korir says all Kenyan athletes in Olympics are clean

Cherangany MP and marathon runner Wesley Korir has stated that the Kenyan team sent to the Rio Olympic games is clean.

Mr Korir, who was speaking to Amka na BBC on Tuesday, said several tests were conducted on the athletes and all results showed that they were clean.

The Team Kenya captain said in some of the tests the athletes were supervised in the washrooms to ensure they did not swap urine samples.

The marathoner added that the athletes were tested up to five times during their training by different agencies.

Tumepimwa karibu mara tano, kuna ADAK walikuja wakapima, RADA wakuja wakamipa, WADA wakakuja wanapima, IAAF wakakuja wakapima tumepimwa damu, tumepimwa mkojo na wanakuja asubuhi kabisa kama kuna wakati walikuja saa tisa ya asubuhi so wakatuamsha saa hio unapewa kitu inaitwa notification unakuwa notified unasign baada ya kuweka sahii huwezi ukaondoka kuna mtu anakuchunga kila wakati, unapoenda kwa choo, unapoenda kukunywa maji, unapoenda kukula kuna mtu anatembea na wewe. Baada yawewe kuwa tayari kupeana ile sample ndiposa unaenda na huyo mtu anakuangalia anahakikisha kwamba unaosha mkono kwanza anahakikisha kwamba ni yako kweli,” he went on to explain.

Asked if the supervisors are assigned according to the gender of the athletes, he said they assign accordingly as they are supposed to walk with the athletes into the washroom and monitor closely as one urinates.

Anasimama na wewe kabisa mpaka aone ukitoa mkojo anakwambia kwanza penduka kwanza anahakikisha kwamba hakuna kitu kwa vile kuna watu wengine wanaeza kuwa wameficha mkojo mwingine mahali flani. Kuna kikombe hivi ambayo imekuja kutoka WARDA ambayo inafungwa kabisa inarejeshwa so anakupatia unaweka mkojo hapo, unaifunga mwenyewe, unahakikisha kwamba imefungwa vizuri…lazima aone kila kitu,” said Mr Korir.

The captain said he was confident that no Kenyan athlete has doped and he will put aside his elective position as a legislator and run for the country on August 21 in the men’s marathon.
