Shock as 550 students arrested in alcohol fuelled sex orgy in Eldoret

Parents and relatives on Monday thronged the Eldoret’s divisional police station to secure the release of 550 students arrested in a swoop on a basement discotheque.

Police arrested the students during a Sunday evening swoop and collected alcohol, bhang, miraa and condoms that were strewn all over the Sam’s Discotheque.

Ironically, the underground discotheque is located exactly opposite the police station, barely 50 metres away.

The arrests come two months after 40 other secondary school students were arrested in a bus in Nyeri county while engaging in sex and consuming drugs.

PREY ON SCHOOLGIRLS

Police said among those arrested on Sunday were university and college students who prey on secondary school girls.  Of the group arrested, about 150 were girls.

No charges will be preferred against the underage students, but those who are 18 years and over will face legal action.

Drama unfolded at the Eldoret police station on Monday as parents agonizingly picked up their children from the police station. Some of the students were from as far as Kitale and Kapsabet towns.

Mrs Jane Rotich was among the parents at the police station on Monday. She said her 16-year-old daughter had told her that she was going for a choir practice.

Another parent, Mr Henry Sugut, calmy held his chin as he scanned across faces of the hundreds of the children arrested searching for his son.

PARENTS’ AGONY

“He left home at around 2pm, after asking for my consent to do some shopping for school. I am very much upset. How I can toil, wear one pair of shoes, while this fool here spends my money with girls!” he lamented.

Eldoret West Deputy OCPD Samson Rukunga said the underage students were arrested and kept at the police station for security purposes.

“We got them in a bad state, and because they are young, we put them in police cars and kept them in our watch until day-break, that is when they can be safe to go,” he said.
