51 to be charged after police cancelled suspected Project X party

Fifty one suspects, including 20 minors, were arrested over the weekend in Eldoret after police canceled the ‘Colour Festival’ which was linked to the banned Project X drug and sex party

Uasin Gishu county officers in collaboration with police raided several clubs in Eldoret town on Saturday night and arrested underage children and owners of the premises.

This was after police officers had earlier dispersed youths who had thronged the Gulab Lochab grounds for the ‘Colour Festival‘ after linking the event to banned the Project X party.

“There were children who had assembled at Gulab Lochab club ground but the police managed to disperse them. After that, some of them thronged clubs that night where we managed to arrest them,” county Drugs and Alcoholic Control Board director Mr Amstrong Rono said.

CLUB OWNERS ARRESTED

Mr Rono said that owners of Spree and Inferno night clubs will appear in court to answer charges of selling alcohol to the minors.

“The minors will be charged for drinking alcohol and acting disorderly. Most of them are aged 14 to 17 meaning they were high school students,” said the director.

He asked parents to monitor activities of their children to prevent them from engaging in immoral activities.

Uasin Gichu deputy Governor Daniel Chemno asked religious leaders to come up with programmes that will guide the youths to the right moral path.

“These are dangerous underground movements that mutate and emerge with different names at various places. We will not allow that to happen,” said Mr Chemno.
