500 youths recruited for Nairobi’s beautification


Nairobi City County has recruited five hundred youth to undertake the beautification and rapid improvement along major transport corridors in Nairobi County.

According to a statement by Nairobi County Governor Dr Evans Kidero the move is aimed at empowering youth in Nairobi as well as keeping them busy inorder to discourage drug abuse and criminal activities.

“The youths have been specifically recruited to unclog blocked drainages, trim hedges, spot weeding, sweep roads and shoulder paths, gardening and carting away trash, litter collection and clear long vegetation,” Kidero said on Saturday.

“We know that some of our leaders have been taking advantage of our youths’ idleness and recruiting them for their own personal objectives. We have also seen youths being lured into terror groups such as Al Shabaab and other outlawed criminal gangs. This is also in line with keeping Nairobi City clean and healthy,” he added.

The governor said his county government intends to recruit 500 more youths in the coming days under the same initiative.

The youths drawn from various parts of the county have been deployed to various parts of the city from the Mombasa road triangle, Waiyaki way, Langata, Ngong, Muranga, Limuru, Chiromo and Thika roads all the way to Uthiru.
