Kidero: Street lighting has reduced Nairobi crime

The crime rate in Nairobi has reduced significantly due to the street lighting project initiated by the county government in June 2015, according to Governor Dr Evans Kidero.

The governor, while addressing worshipers at Starehe SDA Church on Saturday, said the crime rate had dropped from 1,800 incidences per month to 50 per month.

“The Sh953 million street lighting project the county initiated is helping to keep criminals away,” said Kidero.

The governor also urged the youth to come out and register as voters, which he said was the only way they can change the government.

‘PROJECT X’

He also urged the worshipers to shun tribalism and cautioned the youth against underage drinking and illicit sex.

The governor condemned a house party dubbed Project X which has been the subject of public debate in the past week.

“As a father and a leader I will not allow events like Project X to happen under my watch. The organisers of the underage party that took place in Langata will be arrested and prosecuted. We need to instill discipline in our youth. Due process of the law will be followed to ensure the organizer is prosecuted.”
