‘No alarm’ over Mama Lucy Kibaki’s health

Former President Mwai Kibaki’s press team has allayed fears over the health of former First Lady Lucy Kibaki.

The brief statement sent out on Friday evening, comes amid reports that the former First Lady is undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital, for an undisclosed serious ailment.

Word on the grapevine has it that she was reportedly driven to the facility late on Thursday in a worrying state.

“It’s merely a routine check up; the kind your and my mother would routinely need to undergo from time to time. Remember our mothers health given their age cannot be the same as that of high school girls. Thanks for asking and for the concern,” the statement read in part.

ABSENT FROM THE PUBLIC

The statement is, however, unlikely to quell intense speculation from the public on the exact health condition of Lucy Kibaki. This is considering the 75 year old’s consistent absence from the public eye in recent years.

Mrs Kibaki was last seen in public on August 27, 2010, during the promulgation of the Kenyan Constitution at Uhuru Park.

She has since missed out on a number of important events she would otherwise be expected attend including the Kibaki’s handover of power to his successor President Uhuru Kenyatta in April 2013.

She was also conspicuously absent during US President Barrack Obama’s visit to Kenya last year as well as that of Pope Francis.
