Wanga fit to play for Azam against Bidvest Wits
Harambee Stars striker Allan Wanga of Azam FC says he is ready to face South African opponents Bidvest Wits in a continental tie after the Tanzanian club’s medical team gave him a clean bill of health.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Wanga, who emerged unscathed from a road accident in Dar es Salaam early this week, also hinted what his teammates should expect from Bidvest, a club he came close to joining last June.
The Cecafa Club Champions arrived in South Africa on Thursday for Saturday’s encounter in the first leg of the round tie of the Caf Confederation Cup at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.
“I almost joined Bidvest last year, I trained with them for about two weeks. This move was, however, hampered by both delays in securing a work permit plus the frequent trips back home to take care of my (deceased) mother who was very ill at the time,” Wanga said.
“They (Bidvest) are a side that likes to play the ball forward and attack for most spells during the game, especially when playing at home. If offered a chance, I think we are ready for them and can match them in several aspects,” he added.
The return leg of this highly billed clash will be staged at the Chamdzi Complex in Dar in March 20.
