Low-flying KQ now delays employees’ salaries

These are truly hard times for anyone working for Kenya Airways following an announcement by the national carrier that November salaries for their employees will not be paid on time.

A letter addressed to all Kenya Airways staff dated November 25 2015 that Nairobi News has obtained notifies the employees of the impending delay in payment of their salaries.

“We would like to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances in the month of November 2015, salaries will be delayed,” the letter signed by Group Human Resource Director, Mr Alban Mwendar reads.

“We are making all efforts to have them paid in the first week of December 2015. We regret any inconvenience occasioned by the delay,” the letter continues.

MASSIVE LOSS

Nairobi News independently verified this development from an employee of the airline who confirmed that their November salaries have been delayed.

“We are not worried because we know we will be paid as promised. No matter what happens we always get our salaries. The morale at work is as it is supposed to be,” the employee said in telephone interview with Nairobi News.

In the year ending 2015 Kenya Airways made a loss of Sh 25.7 billion. Preliminary evidence gathered by a Senate Select Committee tasked to look into the airline’s operations revealed that strategic errors that led to the near-collapse of the national carrier after its loss figure grew by more than 600 per cent in one year.

Poor management decisions, operational inefficiencies and failure to counter competition have been cited as the some of the reasons for the massive loss.
