30 Nairobi teens arrested after downing 6 litres of vodka

Police raided a pub in Kahawa West and arrested 30 teenagers who were drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes.

Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang said those arrested were high school children who attending a bash. They were aged between 12 and 15.

“There were 30 of them; 15 boys and 15 girls,” he told Nairobi News via the phone.

The children were released after police arrested the pub owner, Peter Kiarie, who has since been charged in court.”

Reports indicate that parents of the children stormed Kiamumbi police station and demanded that they be released.

Police reportedly had to fire in the air to calm the situation.

“We tried to talk to the parents but they kept insisting that the children had been harassed in police custody,” said Mr Sang.

The teenagers had downed eight bottles of vodka before they were caught.

“All the children are now back under the care of their parents. We have linked the parents with counsellors and those who wish can take advantage of that. Parents should take care of their children,” said Mr Sang.

He said police are hunting down the financier of the bash.
