Tusker: We don’t regret loss of top players
Tusker FC director Charles Obiny says the club harbours “no regrets” over its decision to release three of its senior players last November.
The Ruaraka based side offloaded Boniface Oluoch, Ali Abondo and Khalid Aucho at the end of last season.
The threesome were quickly snapped up by Gor Mahia on a free transfer, and have since churned out impressive performances for Frank Nuttall’s table topping team.
In sharp contrast to the insignificant role that he played for Tusker last term, Oluoch has relegated Gor Mahia skipper Jerim Onyango and is contention for the golden glove award this season, having kept ten consecutive clean sheets in 15 matches this term.

Likewise, Abondo is among the leading scorers in the top flight league this season, with eight goals so far, one less than the competition’s leading scorer Meddie Kagere also of Gor Mahia.
Abondo’s efforts have been complimented by impressive defensive displays from midfield partner Khalid Aucho.
In the meantime, Francis Kimanzi’s Tusker have looked anything like title contenders in the first half of the league season, the brewers are currently placed seventh on the log, 17 points adrift of leaders Gor Mahia.
“The three players contracts were up last November and the club couldn’t afford what they were asking for to retain their services,” Obiny told Nairobi News. “For this we cannot regret, infact I am happy for them and their performances”
Privately, Nairobi News understands the decision to release the three players is one of the reasons that Kimanzi is now under pressure at the club.
