Co-op, KPA sharpen knives for finals

The battle is set for the Kenya Basketball Federation men’s finals with defending champions Co-operative Bank locking horns Kenya Ports Authority.

Co-op Bank booked their place in the final after beating USIU Tigers 3-1 in a five-game series that kicked off on Wednesday night.

During game four, played on Saturday at the Kasarani gymnasium, USIU Tigers narrowly lost 69-70 to the bankers.

Tigers had a half basket lead with six seconds left to set a game five clash but guard Alex Ramazani opted to attack the basket in futility and awarded the bankers possession.

Co-Op Bank Guard Titus Musembi obliged to the favour and gave his team the vital basket to the finals against KPA.

This was a repeat of last year’s finals which Co-op Bank won.

In the other semi-final, KPA Lions  won three straight matches in the series against former champions Ulinzi Warriors to book a spot in the final.

KPA won 80-65, 83-68 and 91-82 respectively.

In their third win played on Friday night, Danson Ngatia was the main destroyer for the Lions with 29 points.

Ancet Wafula and Roy Kahure each garnered 23 points for the Lions.

The Anthony Ojukwu led team from Mombasa will now face three time champion Co-op Bank in December in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.
