17 Ethiopians charged with illegal entry

Seventeen Ethiopian nationals were taken to Milimani court on Monday to plea to charges of being in the country illegally.

The Ethiopians, who appeared before Magistrate Daniel Ochenja, pleaded not guilty to the offence with the help of an interpreter.

The Kenyan driver and conductor of the vehicle they were travelling in where also charged with aiding their illegal entry into the country. They both denied the charge.

According to prosecution, the Ethiopians were arrested in Kajiado County on transit to Nairobi and had no valid identification documents.

A US Citizen was also arraigned before the same court for being in the country illegally.

The man was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while intending to travel to Juba using Flight 540.

His three-month visitor’s visa had expired after arriving in the country in December 2013.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and told the court that he was remorseful.
