13 tight races to watch out for in Nairobi county


As Nairobians participate in the general elections, there are tight races in the county and at constituency levels to watch out for.

Here are some of them:

1. Kidero vs Sonko

Gubernatorial candidates Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko will be battling it out to become the next governor of the city county. Their race is expected to be tight owing to the many opinion polls that placed them neck to neck.

2. Sakaja vs Sifuna

Jubilee party’s Johnson Sakaja and ODM’s Edwin Sifuna will be seeking to occupy Sonko’s seat in the Senate. Their race has been a tight one with opinion polls giving a slight margin between them.

3. Passaris vs Shebesh

The two women seeking to become Nairobi’s woman representative will be facing off in a tight race too. Rachel Shebesh will be defending her elective seat as Esther Passaris makes her third attempt at vying for elective seat.

4. Theuri vs Agimba

Embakasi West residents will have a tight race between the incumbent George Theuri and ODM’s Tom Agimba.

5. Aladwa vs Mutura

In Makadara, former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa, who trounced former MP Reuben Ndolo in the party nominations, will face off with the incumbent Benson Mutura.

6. Babu vs Mureithi

Embakasi East residents will see a tight race between student leader Babu Owino and Jubilee party’s Francis Mureithi. Both youthful candidates have been selling their creation of jobs agenda.

7. Jaguar vs Mbogo vs Mwangi

Musician Charles Njagua, Steve Mbogo and Boniface Mwangi will clash in a battle of youths in Starehe Constituency. The three will face of with other young candidates to replace long serving MP Maina Kamanda who lost in the nominations.

8. Ongoro vs Kajwang

A tight race is expected in Ruaraka Constituency between the incumbent TJ Kajwang and Elizbeth Ongoro who defected from ODM to vie on an ANC ticket.

9. Ndirangu vs Muchiri

In Roysambu, the incumbent Waihenya Ndirangu is facing off with other candidates who protested the party nominations results and opted to vie as Independents. A tight race is expected between him and businessman Lee Muchiri.

10. KJ vs Waweru

In Dagoretti South, the incumbent Dennis Waweru, who lost in the party nominations, will be defending his seat against John Kiarie who is vying on a Jubilee party ticket.

11. Gakuya vs Njoroge

In Kasarani, Mercy Gakuya will be seeking to unseat John Njoroge whom she trounced in the Jubilee party nominations.

12. Elachi vs Arati

Beatrice Elachi is seeking to oust the Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati in what will be a tight race.

13. Korir vs Omoke

In Langata, Jubilee’s Nixon Korir will square it out with ODM’s Oscar Omoke.
