This week’s midweek games presented no major upsets but the weekend might offer something else.

Saturday matches

Table-toppers Manchester City continued with their winning ways, thrashing Swansea 4-0 away.

The Citizens are in fine form going into the weekend when they host Tottenham Hotspurs who beat visitors Brighton 2-0.

As recent history has shown, league results between City and Spurs since 2015 have gone either way, suggesting that the two could be in for another draw – or City might just edge it, given their ominous form.

Key players such as Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Aguero might make all the difference for City.

On the other hand, if Delle Ali, Chrstian Eriksen and Harry Kane turn up, Spur might get something out of the match.

Brighton host high-riding Burnley, hoping to put their Wembley woes behind them. Their record at home looks good but the opposition is mean, conceding few goals per match.

Leicester seems to have rediscovered the league winning form and have started to beat teams, with winger Riyadh Mahrez particularly threatening.

The Foxes appear poised to perform well against visitors Crystal Palace who have struggled recently.

Arsenal, who took a point at West Ham in a 0-0 draw, welcome Newcastle to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have lost only once at the Emirates this season – 1-3 to Man United.

Watford host strugglers Huddersfield on Saturday and look forward to nothing less than a win.

Huddersfield has a poor away record and in midweek lost to Chelsea, continuing their terrible run this season.

Stoke hope to turn the tide when they host West Ham after losing several matches in a row.

However, the Hammers appear to have put a halt to their horrible run of form since appointing David Moyes as their new manager.

He seems to have steadied the ship and even claimed a major scalp, beating defending champions Chelsea 1-0.

Chelsea welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. This looks like a straightforward win for the Blues but the Saints can, on their day, spring a surprise.

Sunday matches

Second-placed Manchester United recovered from their loss to City last weekend to edge out Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth 1-0 at Old Trafford.

They travel to West Brom on Sunday where the Red Devils’ superior firepower is expected to show.

Striker Romelu Lukaku broke his nine-match barren run with the winning goal on Wednesday and is hungry for more.

Bournemouth welcomes Liverpool on Sunday and the cherries task appears quite formidable.

Liverpool boast one of the best strike force in the league with Mohamed Salah, the league’s top scorer expected to torment the host’s defence.

He is supported by the ‘magician’ Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane who both can conjure goals from nowhere.

Monday game

On Monday, Everton host Swansea. Sam Allardyce’s appointment as manager appears to have improved Everton, with ‘Big Sam’ plugging the holes that were leaking goals earlier this season.

This looks like a tough match for the Swans as ‘Big Sam’ coaxes Wayne Rooney to produce the goals still left in his locker.
