How argument over bread led to ‘Gattuso’ suspension at AFC Leopards

Suspended AFC Leopards player Collins Okoth got into trouble with the management when he refused to take part in the Caf Confederation Cup assignment against FOSA Juniors in Madagascar.

The combative midfielder, popularly known as Gattuso, was on Friday suspended indefinitely by the club’s management after a National Executive Committee meeting ruled that he had become a disruptive influence in the dressing room.

Nairobi News understands Gattuso refused to warm up against Juniors in Mahanja during the game which ended goalless, a result that meant Leopards were eliminated from continental assignment in the preliminaries.

He also refused to sit on the bench forcing coach Robert Matano to name 17 players for the encounter, instead of the required 18.

“As usual he came late for breakfast on the day of the game and found the bread was finished,” a source explained.

“He then refused to take breakfast and went to lock himself in his room. He was persuaded later on to come to the stadium for the match but again refused to warm up.”

Gattuso is also said to have missed training for an entire week after the team returned from Madagascar.
