Election to blame for loss of Chan hosting rights – DP Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto has described as “unfortunate” the decision by the Confederation of African Football to strip Kenya of the hosting rights for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship.
The DP said the opportunity was taken away from Kenya because the current political situation in the wake of the September 1 Supreme Court ruling that nullified the presidential election.
“That decision (by the Confederation of African Football) was unfortunate. The political uncertainty we are facing is something that has bothered the international community and I think that is why the competition organisers didn’t want to take chances.”
He spoke on Sunday during a series of live TV interviews and later shared some of the thoughts on his official social media pages.
RENOVATING FACILITIES
Mr Ruto however assured Kenyans that the government is on course to renovating sports facilities in the country which will be able to host international competitions in future.
“We are building stadiums and remember we successful hosted the World Youth Athletics Championships which is an international competition,” he said.
Kenya was over the weekend denied the chance to host the 16-nation, three week competition after the continental body ruled that the country lacks the necessary sporting infrastructure to achieve this task.
