Why do so many young Kenyans want to be ‘Jimi Wanjigi’?

Young Kenyans have camped on social media expressing their admiration for tenderprenuer Jimi Wanjigi following an expose of his lifestyle in the Daily Nation.

The story detailed how he easily makes billions of shillings by conceiving projects, getting the government of the day to own them, organizing for funding and influencing awarding of tenders after which he walks away with between nine and 15 per cent of the tender cost.

The wheeler-dealer, according to the story, lives large at a 5-acre property at the heart of the leafy Muthaiga suburbs, sharing a wall with US ambassador.

His kitchen alone is worth Sh20 million and he has a private restaurant with a dedicated chef where only his friends allowed to dine.

However, while his ability to capture the state with mega deals left some people calling for his arrest, others were actually impressed.
