WANTED: Matatu that made u-turn on busy Uhuru Highway as police officers watched

By LILIAN MUTAVI October 28th, 2016 1 min read

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has ordered for the impounding of a matatu that was pictured on Thursday making an illegal U-turn along Uhuru Highway.

However, authorities are still looking for the matatu in question despite the incident taking place just metres away from traffic police officers on duty.

Nairobi County’s head of parking, Tom Tinega, said that he has been directed by Dr Kidero to ensure that the matatu is impounded and detained at City Hall.

Mr Tenga accused the police officers, who were manning traffic on the highway when the incident happened, of failing to take action because they were compromised.

He said the inspectorate team has been given one hour to trace the said matatu and tow it to City Hall.

But by close of business on Friday, the matatu had not been impounded.

The order comes hardly a month after a matatu pluing the Ongata Rongai route was involved in a grisly accident that left four people dead and more than 20 injured.
