Uhuru speaks out on CJ Maraga petition

President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken his silence on the contentious petition filed against Chief Justice David Maraga by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.

The president, speaking at the Sagana State Lodge on Friday when he met leaders from Central Kenya, told the legislator to leave the Judiciary alone.

“We have agreed to go back to the voters and go to the ballot,” said the head of state.

“I understand your pain and action. But we have an election to win on October 17. That has to be our focus. Leave the court alone,” the President said.

“All what we want is for the will of the people to prevail.”

He however asked the Judiciary to facilitate smooth planning of the October 17 election.

“Don’t think that just because we are silent you will force things down our throat,” he retorted.

Mr Ngunjiri sparked protests from both sides on Thursday when he filed a petition seeking ouster of Justice Maraga for “gross misconduct and abuse of office”

Justice Maraga presided over a bench that annulled President Kenyatta’s victory after the August 8 General Election.
