Suicidal patient plunges to death at Kenyatta Hospital

A 24 year-old man jumped to his death at Kenyatta National Hospital over the weekend under unclear circumstances.

Bernard Kipngetich, attached to the National Youth Service (NYS) community programme, jumped from the eighth floor to the ground on Saturday.

Police reports indicate he was a patient at the hospital.

He sustained head injuries and died on the spot. The body was taken to City Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Separately, a woman was elctrocuted to death in Fuata Nyayo slums while cooking potato chips using an electric cooker.

Caroline Wagaki Mureithi, 30 years, was rushed to the South B hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to Kenyatta University mortuary waiting postmortem.

This is the second recent case of suicide in the hospital. Last month, Robert Gichora, who had been a cancer patient at St Mary’s Hospital, jumped from the Kenyatta National Hospital’s 7th to 2nd floor dying on the spot.

Medical records only showed that Mr Gachora had been receiving cancer treatment at St Mary’s Hospital but had not been referred to Kenyatta.
