Sonko bars Kidero from withdrawing cash from bank account

The Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko has outlined a raft of measures that he wants the incumbent Evans Kidero to undertake in the transition period.

In a letter, the incoming governor has prohibited Dr Kidero from entering any contract with any third party committing the county government resources in any manner effective August 8.

“You do not withdraw any funds from the Nairobi County Account with the Central Bank,” said Mr Sonko in a letter drafted by his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui.

The governor-elect has also demanded for the formation of a transition team by end of business Tuesday failure to which he will seek legal redress.

TRANSITION TEAM

Mr Sonko said that the transition committee should constitute of three members from both sides.

He wants an office of reasonable size designated to his transition team and their support staff within the City Hall.

“In the result, it is necessary to ensure a smooth transition of the reigns of power in the Nairobi City County from yourself, stem financial hemorrhage, forestall collapse of services and above all maintain accurate and proper records of county government,” read the letter in parts.

Mr Sonko also demanded that Dr Kidero should not remove “any materials from City Hall or any other county office items of,  and concerning the county including documents without consulting his three people yet to be appointed for the committee.”

Dr Kidero should also disclose to the team of any emergency issue requiring immediate attention of the Governor-elect.
