Nairobi residents can breathe a sigh of relief after doctors called off their strike.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union Secretary General Dr Ouma Oluga urged doctors to resume work immediately, saying the issues had been raised have been cleared.

Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke says that issues have been resolved and the doctors goodwill led to end the strike.

On Friday morning, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu went to City Hall to address the issues raised by doctors.

Dr Oluga said the doctors should go back to work with a positive attitude. He also apologized to Nairobi residents who have suffered during the three weeks long strike.

RELEASED SALARIES

Dr Thuranira Kaugiria, KMPDU Nairobi branch secretary-general, said that the county has already released the salaries and doctors have received the pay slips.

The county, he said, has paid a one month salary and also the 5months arrears in the September salary.

The agreement has also committed the county to promote all doctors by October 7, 2016.

The county has also committed to withdraw the court case against the union and that no doctor will be victimized for participating in the 19-day strike.
