Mr Ruto, who was expected a few minutes later, was no show. Mr Mudavadi told the media that they had waited in vain.

The meeting was expected to be stormy going by the views held the opposing sides.

On Sunday, Mr Ruto accused Mr Chebukati of holding night meetings with Mr Odinga. The IEBC chairman has refuted the claims as reckless.

The joint meeting intends to iron out issues raised by Nasa and Jubilee ahea of the October 17 presidential rerun.

Nasa has demanded the ouster of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba while Jubilee maintains that the commission must handle the election in its current form.
