More politicians under probe over ‘fake’ academic papers
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is not be the only politician with teh task of validating his academic credentials.
An aspirant for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat, Zedekiah Kiprop, is on the spotlight after a lawyer went to court to demand an audit on his academic qualifications.
The lawyer Boaz Kimeli wants to know if the aspirant was qualified to pursue the undergraduate degree he claims to have.
“He has them yes (the academic papers), but he was not qualified from the beginning to pursue them. from the admission,” said Mr Kimeli.
In Nyeri county, gubernatorial aspirant Thuo Mathenge’s academic qualification has also been contested by a petitioner.
QUESTIONABLE CREDENTIALS
The petitioner wrote to the Jubilee Party asking why it accepted Mr Mathenge’s nomination papers after he knowingly presented questionable credentials.
The petitioner attached court rulings from a similar challenge in 2012 where the court found no evidence that Mr Mathenge attended classes at Fairland University.
Starehe MP Maina Kamanda is also facing a similar challenge after a petitioner sought to have the Kenyan National Examination council (Knec) to scrutinize his Form Four certificate. The petitioner wants Mr Kamanda barred from contesting in the 2017 general elections.
The IEBC has said that it will rely on the Ministry of Education to determine if academic papers presented by aspirants are genuine.
