Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) personnel on Tuesday arrested an Administration Police officer and his two accomplices while in possession of five pieces of ivory in Nairobi West .

The three were arrested as they tried to sell the 25kg of ivory estimated to be worth more than Sh1 million.

According to a police report, the policeman is attached to Baram Bate AP post in Garbatula, Isiolo.

Kenya Wildlife Service spokesman Ngugi Gachaga said the men had identified “a buyer” for the five elephant tusks and were on their way to meet him to seal the deal.

“They are under interrogation and will be arraigned in Kibera law court on Wednesday to take a plea,” said Mr Gachaga.

He added that they are yet to establish the source of the ivory and that the seizure reveals up to three elephants were slaughtered.
