Police officer shot in the head in Kayole as MP watched in horror


A police officer was on Sunday shot in the head in Kayole, Nairobi, as the local Member of Parliament watched in horror.

The police officer was shot while attempting to arrest a suspect.

The suspect was in a crowd of about 60 people who had gathered in front of the Cooperative Bank, Kayole branch, on Spine road.

ARREST A SUSPECT

According to the police, Embakasi Central MP John Ndirangu, who was among the crowd, had told the police officer to arrest a man for a yet to be known reason.

As the police officer moved in to make the arrest, someone in the crowd shot him in the head.

The motive of the shooting has not been established and police are investigating the incident.

The wounded officer is said to be in stable condition after he was rushed to a nearby hospital by his colleagues.

One suspect is in police custody, but they are yet to arrest the person who shot the officer.

In another incident, two police officers and a civilian were arrested in Mtito Andei town.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

Police officers had received a tip from members of the public that a suspicious vehicle was seen parked next to a hotel room.

The police monitored the vehicle which had three occupants who were seen making many calls and looked suspicious.

The suspects had police identification and are suspected to be attached to various police stations in Nairobi.

One officer is alleged to be attached at Ruaraka GSU Headquarters Garrison and was found in possession of one handcuff without serial number.

The other officer is said to be a GSU officer reportedly attached to former IG David Kimaiyo’s residence in Muthangari. He was found in possession of one police pocket phone.

The three have been detained and are under investigation by DCIO Kibwesi to establish their mission.
