Rogue police officer arrested for kidnapping


A police officer has been arrested in Nakuru for being involved in the kidnapping and robbing of an elderly man.

The police officer was part of gang that kidnapped Richard Mwangi Kamau from his home in Nakuru, robbed him and later dumped him by the road side.

The arrested and one of his accomplices shot dead after kidnapping and robbing an elderly man before dumping him by the road side.

Mr Kamau reported how a motor vehicle registration number KCE 953U Nissan saloon came to his homestead at Subukia on Saturday and the five occupants bundled him inside before driving away.

His son, Stephen Ndirangu, who was at home at the time, reported the matter to the local chief who shared and circulated the motor vehicle details with the police.

SHOOTOUT

The victim was robbed of Sh100,000 by the suspects before being dumped at Munyinyi from where he walked to Subukia Police Station to report the case.

According to a police report, officers from Solai Police Station laid an ambush along Solai/Maji Tamu where the suspects engaged the officers in a shootout.

One of the suspects, identified as Paul Kimotho Gitimu, was fatally shot during the exchange while another one suffered injuries.

Three suspects were arrested while one managed to escape. The three suspects who were arrested were identified as Joseph Kiragu Ng’ang’a, 31, who is a police officer based at Dadaab, 27 year old Kenneth Michuki Mwangi and Joseph Munyaka Njuki aged 33.

The police recovered Sh10,000, one pair of handcuffs, eight spent cartridges and one bullet head of an AK 47 rifle,  certificate of appointment of the Administration police officer and five mobile phones.
