Parent collapses after being asked to pay Sh17k in school fees

A parent collapsed from shock while admitting his daughter to form one at Kingwede Girls Secondary School in Kwale County on Wednesday.

Ndaikwa Chale from Kinango sub-county had taken his daughter to be admitted at the school and was reportedly shocked by what he was informed he was required to pay in school fees.

His daughter Fatuma Chale, 16, scored 319 marks out of 500 despite her poor family background.

According to the daughter, after doing all the school shopping, her father was left with only Sh800, which he thought could cover the entire school fees.

“We shopped for school materials before we arrived at school in the evening but when my father was told about the fees he collapsed and started vomiting,” said the girl.

CHARCOAL SELLERS

The girl said that both her parents sell charcoal and cannot afford to pay Sh16,993 which is required as school fees.

The school principal, Mrs Peninah Mwinyi, said the two arrived in the evening looking exhausted.

“A parent arrived accompanied by his daughter and proceeded for admission but when he was asked to pay the school fees, he fainted,” said Mrs Mwinyi.

She suspected that the failure by the parent to raise school fees for his daughter could have affected him psychological.

“We rushed him to Msambweni County Referral Hospital as we got in touch with his relatives,” she said.
