Nation Media Group has won awards for three of its products in the ongoing Africa Digital Media Awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nation news website (Nation.co.ke) took the first place while NTV Wild and My Network were placed second in the Best Use of Online Video category and Best Reader Engagement category respectively.

The first place was shared with Times Media of South Africa.

HARD WORK

“This award is a recognition of the immense talent the Nation Media Group prides itself in. It is testament to the professionalism and dedication to public duty with which Nation journalists and Web producers go about their duties. The World Association of Newspapers and Publishers has celebrated our hard work and diligence, and we promise even better to our audiences,” said Churchill Otieno, Managing Editor (social media).

Six NMG products had been nominated early this month as finalists for the Africa Digital Media Awards (2016).

The awards by Wan Ifra, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, will be the first in Africa and will discuss digital innovations on the continent, in line with global media focus which is moving towards digital platforms.

FINEST TALENT

Wan Ifra said the awards, which are dominated by media outlets in Kenya and South Africa, will celebrate the finest talent across the industry.

Tom Mshindi, NMG’s Editor-in-Chief said: “We are very proud that out of eight entries for the various categories we entered, six have been short-listed, underscoring our very strong digital innovations capacity.”

The awards recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major changes in how people consume news and information today.
