Nasa conspiring with Magufuli to rig elections – Jubilee MPs

A section of Jubilee MPs have accused Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli of conspiring with National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga to rig the August 8  general election.

Speaking during a caravan dubbed ‘Mbele Iko Sawa’ to drum support for Jubilee re-election in Tharaka-Nithi County, MPs, Moses Kuria (Gatundu), Muthomi Njuki (Chuka/Igambang’ombe) Mburi Muiru (Tharaka) and Tharaka-Nithi women representative Beatrice Nkatha said, President Magufuli should allow Kenyans to exercise their democratic rights without interference.

Mr Kuria said Mr Magufuli was helping Nasa to set a parallel tallying centre to that of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to declare Mr Odinga a winner.

“President Magufuli should tell Kenyans what exactly is his role in the Nasa campaign,”said Mr Kuria.

MP Njuki accused the High Court of being compromised by Nasa on its recent presidential ballot paper tender that was overturned by the Court of Appeal on Thursday.

SENSED DEFEAT

The legislator said Nasa is not interested with the August 8, polls and has been trying to sabotage it using the High Court.

“Mr Odinga should tell Kenyans that he is not prepared for elections and stop using court to sabotage the exercise,” said MP Njuki.

He said Mr Odinga had sensed defeat and was after impending it.

He asked Mr Odinga to pull out of the race if he is not ready for the polls and allow Kenyans to elect their leaders.

The leaders exuded confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta would win overwhelmingly and asked locals to make sure they vote Jubilee candidates only.

DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

However, at Kathwana market, supporters of Governor Samuel Ragwa and MP Njuki fought disrupting the meeting after Chuka/Igambangombe MP candidate Patrick Munene accused the governor of looting public funds.

The Jubilee leaders also faced opposition at Kanwaa, and Chiakariga markets.

Ms Nkatha said Nasa had no agenda for Kenyans and should stop misleading people.

“We want leaders with development agenda like Mr Kenyatta,” said Ms Nkatha.

Mr Njuki, who is seeking Tharaka-Nithi governorship, accused the incumbent Samuel Ragwa of failing to better lives of the locals despite receiving at least Sh15 billion from the national government.

The leaders also campaigned for the reelection of Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki who is facing strong opposition from Mr Kiambi Matanka of Maendeleo Chap Chap.
