November 16th, 2017 1 min read

Two Nasa legislators are being held by police for questioning over their role in organising a rally at Kamukunji grounds.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, his Kasarani  counterpart Tom Kajwang and Steve Mbogo, who vied and lost for Starehe constituency in August 8 elections, were arrested and briefly detained at Kilimani police station as they headed to Kibra for a rally.

Police confirmed the arrest and said the MPs were questioned before being released.

Nairobi county police commander Japheth Koome had on Thursday banned the rally saying it will interfere with the ongoing Form 4 national exams.

The MP’s were arrested en-route to the  rally in Kibra.

The legislators were later released with police saying that they were only arrested for riding on motorcycles without helmets.

DRAMA AT JKIA

Earlier, there was drama at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after police blocked a section of the opposition leaders from addressing the press at the airport.

The Nasa politicians at the airport were led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

The opposition had vowed to defy an order barring them from holding a public rally in the capital Nairobi.

The police order was the second in less than 24 hours after Nasa supporters were banned from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where they were scheduled to receive Nasa chief Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday.
