Man collapses, dies in Parklands gym

Police are investigating the death of a man, who collapsed while playing at a gymnasium in Parklands, Nairobi.

Mr Kareem Verjee, 54, was playing squash during the incident at Arena gymnasium.

“AAR doctors were called to attend to him but pronounced him dead after 30 minutes,” a police report stated.

Separately, Mr Hand Christian Wanner, a 65-year-old German died while taking vodka at his house in Shamba la Mbuzi, Diani.

He was in the company of a friend, Ms Judi Achieng, 41, who reported the matter to the police.

SIPPING VODKA

According to police, the woman said he fell from his chair while sipping vodka and was gasping for air while sprawled on the floor.

He was rushed to Diani Beach Hospital where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

In Nairobi, police shot dead a robbery suspect on Haile Selassie Avenue on Tuesday.

The suspect and an accomplice had robbed a woman and tried to escape on a motorcycle.

“A woman raised alarm and officers on patrol responded. They challenged the robbers to surrender but they fired at police prompting a shootout,” police said.

The other suspect was arrested during the 11 pm incident.

A pistol loaded with two bullets was recovered from the suspects.

The motorcycle was also detained by police.

Police said the two had snatched a handbag from the woman and it contained Sh 1,200, a mobile phone and personal documents.
