Kidero orders probe on Weston Hotel cholera outbreak

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has ordered investigation into the cholera outbreak at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi as preliminary report state the food served came from outside.

This comes in the wake of efforts by the Ministry of Health to downplay the case.

Speaking to journalists in Kawangware Coast PAG church, Dr Kidero said that the case was unfortunate and the county is making a follow up.

“This case of cholera was rather unfortunate and we following up on reports that food was served to guests from outside the hotel,” said Dr Kidero.

PUBLIC HEALTH

He however said Weston Hotel, which served the food, should take full responsibility of the incident.

He further said the county is also going to investigate the staff of the hotel and their records as it is a public health requirement for those working in the hotel industry to undergo medical examination and get necessary vaccinations twice a year.

“We will check on the records of the people working at Weston because it is public health requirement that everybody must go for a medical examination and get necessary vaccination twice a year,” said Dr Kidero.

He said the report will be out in two days and those found culpable will be penalized.
