Kidero now blames Sonko for his below par performance

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has said his five year tenure at City Hall was frustrated by an ‘incompetent’ senator.

Dr Kidero told journalists at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Wednesday that he would have accomplished more if he had a senator who understood his role.

“He (Senator Mike Sonko) did not understand what his roles were because of incompetence. People like Kimani Wamatangi, Bonny Khalwale and Anyang’ Nyongo knew what the role of a senator entailed and they will probably go down as the best senators in the last parliament,” said Dr Kidero while meeting the Teso community in Nairobi.

RECURRENT EXPENDITURE

The governor also claimed that a bloated workforce at City Hall and huge debts  frustrated  his development plans because most of his budget was committed to recurrent expenditure.

“We could have done more but we did not have money because most went to the payment of debts at 10 per cent, salaries 55 per cent and recurrent expenses 25 per cent, and 10 per cent in development,” he said.

He is optimistic his second term will be different because the national government will pay debts it owes the county.

Dr Kidero also criticised Mr Sonko’s rcently launched manifesto,  claiming that it is not realistic and impossible to implement.

‘NOT REALISTIC’

“It is not realistic. This coming year through the revenue sharing formula we are getting Sh13.5 billion and another Sh2 billion for the programmes from the national government mainly in health as conditional grant. Salaries currently is Sh1.3 billion after the salary review will now go to Sh1.5 billion. How will they fund their operations?” he posed.

Dr Kidero also claimed Mr Sonko’s manifesto was copied from his strategic plan.

“It is all copied from ours. Tell me what is different from ours? The only difference is that they do not understand the job they supposedly want to do,” he said.
