Would-be ‘ISIS bride’ jailed for five years

A middle aged woman will serve five years in jail after she was found guilty of possessing videos relating to terrorism.

Amina Mwaiz Muange entered into a detailed plea agreement with the prosecution in which her confession was recorded on video and in writing after being deported from India on December 12 last year on suspicion of intending to join ISIS.

The press was not allowed to photograph her due to ‘security reasons’.

Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu told the court Muange pleaded guilty “freely” and “voluntarily without promise or benefit of any kind” and that she understood the charge including the penalties.

“The accused stated that in 2004 while in Kisauni, Mombasa she converted to Islam and got married in 2007 but later divorced,” the prosecutor said.

He said in 2010, Muange was approached by a woman named Mishi about job opportunities in Saudi Arabia and assisted her to get a passport.

“She worked for the initial two years and extended the contract before she changed employers and moved to Hyderbad, India on October 16 2015,’ Mr Ondimu said.

Intelligence officers arrested her on December 9, 2015 while at her employer’s house.
