Jubilee MP buys newspaper advert to thank voters who rejected him
Gichugu MP Njogu Barua has bought newspaper space to thank his constituents for the time he served as their Member of Parliament after they voted him out in the Jubilee Party primaries.
Mr Barua was trounced by lawyer Githinji Gichimu for the Jubilee ticket in Gichugu constituency.
“I Hon (Dr) Njogu Barua PhD, MP sincerely thank Gichugu constituents for the opportunity to represent you in the Kenya National Assembly. For this I will forever remain grateful,” wrote Barua in the Daily Nation advert.
“I also urge you to consider the just concluded campaigns as a closed chapter, remain united, and work towards a progressive constituency, County and Nation.
CONCEDED DEFEAT
Barua was among the many casualties in Kirinyaga where political heavy weights were handed resounding defeats in the Jubilee nominations, which were marked by chaos and confusion.
All the senior politicians, save for senator Daniel Karaba were knocked out and promptly conceded defeat.
In what was seen as a determination to bring leadership change in the region, the residents turned out in large numbers and voted against all the five members of Parliament, Peter Gitau (Mwea), Stephen Ngare (Ndia), Barua (Gichugu) and Gachoki Gitari (Kirinyaga Central) as well as Woman Representative Winnie Njuguna.
Also rejected during the nominations was the County Governor Joseph Ndathi who was defeated by former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.
