Why IEBC had results written in an exercise book

The electoral commission has retracted a write up of presidential results that had been uploaded on their website after public outcry.

The write up, done on an exercise book, showed the results of Bulla Dadacha polling station in Elwak South Ward, Mandera South constituency.

In the write up, President Uhuru Kenyatta had garnered 323 votes, Raila Odinga with 40 votes and Abduba Dida with 18 votes.

UNDER PRESSURE

The commission’s Communications and Public Affairs manager Andrew Limo said the presiding officer seemed to have been under pressure, but confirmed that the commission received the official Form 34A from the same polling station with the same results captured.

He added that all presiding officers had been issued with the official forms.

“I think the particular presiding officer was under pressure but we have the hard copy of the signed with the same results form and will share it,” said Mr Limo.

Asked if uploading an unofficial form on the site amounts to an election offense Mr Limo said; “Yes, this is very wrong. We will investigate what exactly happened.”

Kenyans online had downloaded the write up and shared it widely questioning why the commission had allowed unofficial write ups on the portal.
