Hacker accused of stealing Sh4b from KRA asks Kenyans to help him raise bail

The computer guru charged with hacking into the Kenya Revenue Authority system leading to the loss of nearly Sh4 billion has appealed to Kenyans for support to raise bail.

Alex Mutuku, through his brother Alphonce, wrote a long letter that was posted on his timeline explaining his predicament.

His case is set for a bail ruling on March 28 and Mr Mutuku says he only has Sh100,000 to pay as bail but since his first request for a reasonable bail was denied he is getting ready by fundraising.

CONTRIBUTION

“I’m humbly asking each and everyone to help me however they can. It can be through a contribution, praying for me or even coming to give me moral support on 28th. If you would like to contribute towards my bail, here’s how, Use paybill 522522 and A/c number 1153642247, [Alphonce Mutuku] [0719700312],” wrote Mr Mutuku.

He added that he had given his brother full control of his Facebook account urging those who would like to help him to contact the brother.

Mr Mutuku has been charged with the offense of hacking into KRA’s systems. On Tuesday he denied the charge before chief magistrate Francis Andayi.

Prosecution sought that the suspect be detained for 40 days terming him a threat to national security but his lawyer protested further detention saying police had not shown evidence of what had been gathered in the 14 days he had been in custody.
